Of the two types of cultivation, namely, the settled and shifting, the one in which the household was engaged during the agricultural year 1987-88 will be shown against item 9 in terms of codes. If the household was engaged only in settled cultivation, code 1 would be recorded against this item and code 2 would be entered if the household was engaged only in shifting cultivation. The appropriate code would be 3 when the household carried out settled as well as shifting cultivation. Code 4 would be assigned to those households who did not undertake any cultivation during the reference period.
